Bob Miller,
All in first person, all the same first person。 Quite unique。 Although I don't think like the narrator, I think he was consistent and just a regular person。 Well, a regular writer。 In the end, all the mysteries are resolved, and the main characters are happy, for the most part。 Life goes on。 All in first person, all the same first person。 Quite unique。 Although I don't think like the narrator, I think he was consistent and just a regular person。 Well, a regular writer。 In the end, all the mysteries are resolved, and the main characters are happy, for the most part。 Life goes on。 。。。more

Pretty good who done itI had no idea what happened until the end。 Many twists and turns。 Good portrayal of small town life and neighborhoods。 Many deaths and the horrible slow death of a person with Altsimers。

3。5 ⭐️ Purchased book as part of Amazon First Reads。 The book was OK … didn’t hate it。 It had a lot of twists and turns but not a thriller。 The main character put himself in a lot of situations that were not realistic。

The cops don't know it allSometimes a good imagination can be much more useful than bringing a great novel to print。 The way Mr。 Hart brings his reader along should make his criminally inclined neighbors more than one sleepless night。 The cops don't know it allSometimes a good imagination can be much more useful than bringing a great novel to print。 The way Mr。 Hart brings his reader along should make his criminally inclined neighbors more than one sleepless night。 。。。more
Barbara Williams,
DifferentGood story but different from some of his previous works。 Tamer。 A lot of twists along the way, false leads and even a few characters that had a bit part but nothing ever came of the connection like the Visitor and Herringbone。 Speranza。
Claudia,
Or Else was one of the best books I have read in a long time。 The author was able to paint an incredibly clear picture of the characters and setting, making it so enjoyable and exciting to read。 I truly could not predict or see the ending coming, something that usually I am good at。 In Or Else, the twists and turns kept me turning pages quickly, and I finished the book the same day I got it。 An amazing thriller from an amazing author。 I cannot wait to read what he writes next。

His own family relationships are jeopardized and Andy finds himself in one heck of a mess as everything from his past comes back to haunt his dreams and his waking hours。 Joe Hart writes one heck of a thriller in this intense book that readers won't be able to put down。 The plot is believable and the sometimes bumbling very human Andy is likable。 There are lots of characters and the author makes them all real。 I thoroughly enjoyed the ride this novel gave me and highly recommend it。 Thanks to #NetGalley#OrElse for the opportunity to read and review this book。 。。。more

I devoured this in one day…Never mind that I should be packing to move, but this novel appeared。。 recognizing Joe Hart from a previous read, I started… hours, hours later… I finished this amazing, heartbreaking, love story…。 Sometimes I was anxious, sometimes, I was worried, but in the end I was so relieved that love truly won out。。 Definitely worth my Saturday for a good read。 Joe Hart is becoming one of my favorite authors, 2 out of 2!!!
Cynthia A,
where does the killing endA small town suddenly has more deaths than can be explained。 A mystery writer moves to this town to help his father who is developing dementia。 This writer can’t keep his nose out of things he shouldn’t be concerned with。The story flows and is very interesting。 I enjoyed this book。
Shirley,
Not too much of mystery with too many probable connections。
Hugh Butler,
not bad but a bit maudlin and sentimental。I know emotions drive actions and mysteries require purpose and drive, but it's not at all clear to me why this must mean so much introspection and doubt。plus, what's with this latest trend of declaring "but that stuff doesn't happen in real life" while deep in fiction?oh well。 not bad but a bit maudlin and sentimental。I know emotions drive actions and mysteries require purpose and drive, but it's not at all clear to me why this must mean so much introspection and doubt。plus, what's with this latest trend of declaring "but that stuff doesn't happen in real life" while deep in fiction?oh well。 。。。more

Don't botherWorst Amazon first pick ever。 Aside from the obvious church hating yet Bible thumping narrative, this novel is so badly written that I admit to skimming at least 100 pages。 The narrator, Andy who is a mystery writer is intent on finding his missing mistress and her two kids after her husband is found murdered。 The story just unravels from there, makes no sense。 Would love Amazon to give me a refund, but it was a free pick。 Wasted。 Don't botherWorst Amazon first pick ever。 Aside from the obvious church hating yet Bible thumping narrative, this novel is so badly written that I admit to skimming at least 100 pages。 The narrator, Andy who is a mystery writer is intent on finding his missing mistress and her two kids after her husband is found murdered。 The story just unravels from there, makes no sense。 Would love Amazon to give me a refund, but it was a free pick。 Wasted。 。。。more

Sorry, but this one is just dull。Joe Hart's new novel, OR ELSE, never really got off the ground for me。 It is dubbed as a mystery/thriller but fails entirely at the "thrilling" part。 It does have a few things going for it, but not enough to overcome a major pacing problem。Hart is a good writer and he manages to bring his main character to life。 Some of his family dynamics are interestin, amusin and probably the best part of the book。 Unfortunately, the main character is just not edgy enough to b Sorry, but this one is just dull。Joe Hart's new novel, OR ELSE, never really got off the ground for me。 It is dubbed as a mystery/thriller but fails entirely at the "thrilling" part。 It does have a few things going for it, but not enough to overcome a major pacing problem。Hart is a good writer and he manages to bring his main character to life。 Some of his family dynamics are interestin, amusin and probably the best part of the book。 Unfortunately, the main character is just not edgy enough to be interesting。 He is a nice guy, who is a bit of a wimp。 He takes care of his ailing father and is sneaking around with the neighbor, who is married with two children His crush on the neighbor seems both juvenile and sappy。 The main character is the sole narrator for the story, and may be why the book seems as dull as he does。Even a great story can be diminished by a poor story teller, and I am not sure this ever could have been a great story。 The plot is intricate with several dead people and multiple shady characters, and yet it still seemes like not much happens。 There are multiple red herrings, but any mystery fans will have it figured out fairly early。 Some of the clues that are "discovered" had already been overlooked by the police beause they were so obscure, they should never have been used as clues, at all。 The main character's amateur sleuthing is almost pathetic。 Yet he manages to dig up lots of trouble, helped by the fact there is an almost unheard of number of criminals within walking distance of his house (located in a small religious community, in the shadow of a church)。 Really??This book has a lot going on, and yet it feels like nothing ever happens。 The book isn't awful, but it is forgettable and a waste of time。 。。。more
Audriana,
I’ll be honest, I did not like this book at first。 I found it hard to relate to the main character, which resulted in me being annoyed by him for the first half of the book。 I felt no sympathy for him or the situation。 The last 40% is what made me like it。 I had no idea what to expect for Rachel and the boys, no idea who did it or what really had been done。 It was a shock to learn the “who-done-it”。
